Knee Pain: Can Your Feet Affect It?

The feet are the first point of contact with the ground, so changes in how they load can influence the ankle, knee and hip above them. That does not mean every case of knee pain starts at the feet.

How the movement chain matters

When the foot rolls, stiffens or loads asymmetrically, the leg may compensate during walking. In some people this can change how force passes through the knee.

Why assessment matters

Knee pain can also come from injury, arthritis, tendon problems, muscle weakness or other conditions. A movement assessment can identify lower-limb loading patterns, but it should not replace medical evaluation when symptoms are acute, severe or unexplained.

What Wonderwalk looks at

We review gait, pressure, posture, foot mobility and footwear to see whether the feet are one part of the pattern. If another form of care is more appropriate, we say so.
