Children’s feet

Flat feet in children.

Flat feet are one of the main reasons families visit Wonderwalk. A low arch by itself does not tell the whole story, so we look at how the child stands, walks, moves and manages everyday activity.

Child walking during a Wonderwalk movement assessment

We assess the child, not just the footprint.

When an assessment may help

Start with what you notice.

  • Feet or ankles that tire quickly
  • Pain during walking, sport or longer outings
  • Shoes wearing unevenly or becoming uncomfortable
  • Knees, heels or ankles appearing to move inward
  • A noticeable difference between the two sides

Measure first

What we assess

Our five-stage assessment connects foot pressure, gait, posture, foot mobility and a foot blueprint. We also consider footwear, activity and what the child or parent has noticed at home.

Explain clearly

What happens next

Not every child with flat feet needs insoles. If support is appropriate, the recommendation is based on the child’s movement and daily needs. We explain what we find before anything is made.

Common questions

Useful answers before you book.

Are flat feet always a problem in children?

No. Foot shape alone does not determine whether treatment is needed. Symptoms, movement, age, flexibility, footwear and activity all form part of the assessment.

Does every child with flat feet need bespoke insoles?

No. We assess first. Insoles may be discussed when the findings and the child’s needs support them, but they are not automatic.

What should my child bring?

Bring the shoes worn most often, including school or sports shoes where relevant, plus any reports or previous orthotics. A parent or guardian should attend.

Not sure whether this fits?

Tell us what you are noticing.

You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself. Start with the RM300 five-stage movement assessment, or send us a short description before booking.
