Bunion assessment in Penang

Bunion assessment and pressure management.

For a painful or changing bunion, Wonderwalk assesses big-toe movement, pressure around the first metatarsal and the rest of the forefoot, gait and shoe fit. The aim is to reduce troublesome load and improve how pressure is shared during walking.

Wonderwalk assessment and movement care

Does the joint beside your big toe rub against your shoes, turn red or seem to be changing while pressure builds under the front of your foot?

01

A bunion changes more than the side of the shoe

As the big toe drifts, the joint can rub inside footwear and may not share push-off normally. Some people also develop pressure or callus under the first metatarsal or the smaller metatarsals because the forefoot is loading differently.

02

How we assess the bunion

We check big-toe and first-ray mobility, map pressure under the forefoot and watch how you move through push-off. We also compare the shoe that rubs with one that feels comfortable.

03

How Wonderwalk may help

A wider, better-shaped shoe can remove direct rubbing. In selected cases, a bespoke insole can be designed to offload the painful first-metatarsal area and redistribute weight across the foot. This may help reduce the mechanical forces that contribute to further progression, but it will not straighten an established bunion.

The RM300 assessment covers foot pressure, gait, posture, foot mobility and a foot blueprint or measurements. We explain findings verbally. A written report has a separate fee. If you proceed with the recommended solution within one month, the RM300 is credited toward it.

Useful answers

Can bespoke insoles stop my bunion getting worse?

They cannot guarantee that. In a suitable case, the design can redistribute pressure and reduce mechanical stress around the first ray, with the aim of slowing progression and improving comfort.

Why do you need to see my shoes?

The width, toe-box shape, depth and sole all affect rubbing and forefoot pressure. A good insole inside the wrong shoe will not solve the shoe problem.

When should I see a doctor about a bunion?

Seek medical review if the joint becomes severely painful, hot or swollen, the change is rapid, or you want to discuss surgical correction.
