Why Off-the-Shelf Insoles Sometimes Stop Helping

Many people feel temporary relief from an off-the-shelf insole. That can be useful, but it does not necessarily mean the device is addressing the reason the area is overloaded.

Compression changes the insole

Soft materials can flatten with repeated use. Once that happens, the shape and pressure redistribution you initially felt may reduce.

Generic shape, individual feet

Two people with similar pain can have very different pressure patterns, foot mobility, alignment and footwear needs. A standard insole cannot account for all of those differences.

When bespoke may make sense

If symptoms keep returning, the next step is not automatically a harder insole. It is an assessment to understand the loading pattern first. Bespoke insoles are useful when the findings justify a patient-specific design.
