Plantar Fasciitis: Why Is Morning Pain Often Worse?

One of the classic complaints with plantar fasciitis is sharp heel pain during the first few steps after getting out of bed.

Why the first steps can hurt

After a period of rest, the plantar fascia and surrounding tissues are relatively unloaded. The first steps suddenly place tension through the area again, which can make an irritated attachment feel particularly painful.

Why it may ease and then return

Some people feel better after walking for a while, only for the pain to return later after prolonged standing or activity. That pattern can reflect repeated loading rather than a problem that has fully settled.

Assessment looks beyond the heel

Foot pressure, gait, calf flexibility, foot mobility and footwear can all influence how load reaches the heel. Wonderwalk assesses these factors before discussing whether orthotic management may help.
