Bunion: When Is It More Than a Cosmetic Problem?
A bunion can be visible for years without causing much trouble. For some people, however, it becomes painful, changes shoe fit, or alters how they load the front of the foot.
When a bunion deserves more attention
Useful warning signs include pain around the big-toe joint, rubbing against shoes, callus formation, reduced walking comfort, or avoiding certain shoes because of pressure.
The painful spot is not always the whole story
Forefoot pressure, foot mobility, gait and footwear all influence how a bunion feels during daily activity. That is why simply adding a softer insole may not solve the underlying loading problem.
What can an assessment change?
An assessment can help clarify whether footwear changes, pressure relief, bespoke insoles or referral for another form of care is most appropriate.
Wonderwalk does not assume that every bunion needs the same solution.
